Spring may have finally sprung...

Even though our Minnesota spring weather has been less than warm, our hallways have that wonderful spring feeling.  We have been learning about the artist Georgia O'Keefe with my morning class.

Her artwork does not focus on the "typical" type of flowers, rather looking at them from a different view.  We focused on looking at the flowers from the inside out since we spent time in science dissecting them.  This was a bit hard for the kids, but we worked step by step.  We explored the color wheel and complimentary colors as well.  Our finished products are AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL!

If you have walked past the "Rademacher Wing" during the springs past you may have realized that I love flowers, color and great artwork.  Not the kind of typical crafty artwork, rather artwork that comes from the uniqueness of each child.  I found a book that inspired me. I certainly am going to add it to my collection.  It is called Planting a Rainbow by Lois Ehlert.

This project inspired me to let the kids go creatively free.  I separated them into groups and assigned a type of flower.  The chaos in the room when they were given no specific rules was a bit much. The excitement filled the air, and the noise volume was extreme.

The final product is beautiful! Enjoy!
