Chirp, chirp, chirp

Cricket Research
Our science unit has been so much fun! Our plants are really growing, our terrariums are now filled with crickets, and our anoles are set to arrive next Friday. (Be sure to get those permission slips in if you would love for one to join your family!) The class did a bit of cricket research today, and then got to observe the real things. (Many crickets also got names!)

Great partner work!

In reading this week we read a new story called Jalapeno Bagels. http://search.barnesandnoble.com/Jalapeno-Bagels/Natasha-Wing/e/9780689805301/

In addition we explored a second book called Everybody Cooks Rice. http://search.barnesandnoble.com/Everybody-Cooks-Rice/Norah-Dooley/e/9780876145913/

The kids had so much fun reading all about the different dishes made in the stories.  There were many different countries talked about in the book.  The kids got inspired, and so did a new project in the mess!

First we did a bit of research on populations...

Next, students found facts about the countries, information about the flags and did a drawing of the country!

The projects are in their final stages and looking wonderful!

We finished up our MCA assessments for the year! YAY! You will get results mailed to you this summer when they are available.  It is now cursive ALL the time, so students have been working hard to adjust.   We also created a great Mother's Day present!
(No pictures yet since I don't want to ruin anything!)

Happy Mother's Day to you all! Enjoy the day!
