Mrs. Rademacher’s Classroom Handbook

I am really looking forward
to a great 2012-2013 school year! Third grade is filled with many adventures, and
a lot of great new learning.
Please read through the general classroom information. Let me know if
there is anything else I can assist with!
Classroom Management
Our
classroom uses the clip system for behavior. Each day the class starts on the ready to learn spot.
Throughout the day they can be moved down to slow down (reminder), reflection
time (like a time out to get themselves back on track), and parent contact
where I will either call home, send an email or put a note in their mailboxes. In addition to this students will have
the opportunities to move up throughout the day.
Great job, outstanding and role model are steps above the ready to learn
used to motivate students to be on task and follow classroom rules and routines.
Wyoming
Elementary does shave a zero tolerance policy for any type of violence and/ or
bullying. If this should occur a
school discipline ticket of FYI will be issued, and the student would move
directly to parent contact.
Homework
This
will be a change from what I have done in previous years. This year students will have a daily
planner in their three ring binders that needs to get checked and signed by an adult nightly. Homework will be written into their
planners at the end of every day.
Each night students will be required to read at least 20 minutes to take
place of our former reading logs.
In addition to this families should plan on math activities, and
spelling throughout the week.
Snack Break
Third grade has an early lunchtime so we
will have time each afternoon for a snack break. Students are encouraged to bring in a healthy snack from
home. Please keep in mind that a healthy snack will do more to boost your
child’s learning than a snack full of sugar. We will not be ordering milk or juice from the
kitchen.
Communication
We are partners in your child’s educational
success. Open communication
between school and home is crucial.
Please feel free to call or e-mail me with any questions or concerns that
you may have. I check my e-mail from school, as well as at home. Also, look for our weekly newsletter in
your child’s communication folder that is sent home every Friday. The best times to
contact me are from 7:45-9:00 AM, and from 3:30-3:45 PM. Our classroom blog is a great way to
view pictures and snapshots of what is happening in the classroom.
Volunteers
I do have opportunities for adults to come in and help out in the classroom. If you
are interested in helping out please let me know!
Things I always need help
with
- Communication
Folders and mail on Friday’s
- Working
with students
- Preparing
classroom materials (copying, cutting…)
- Field
trips
- Parent
experts (Would you like to come in and share your hobbies, talents or job
duties?)
Birthdays
A birthday is a special day for your child
and our classroom. Please feel
free to send in a treat for the celebration if you wish. We currently have 25
students. We will celebrate the
summer birthdays at the end of the school year with a summer birthday bash!
Grading
Third grade uses the 1-5 grading
system. Grades are kept using the
online grade book that parents can access from home. Grades are updated weekly as assignments are finished and
corrected. Please remember this is
just a portion of each child’s progress.
Report cards are completed twice a year, as well as two scheduled
conferences times.
