We have started our math unit on fractions.
This is always a difficult subject area for students to grasp. One way to engage the students and keep them interested was to use M & M's to discuss the whole (denominator) and parts of the whole (numerator). The kiddos were responsible for determining how many there were in all, as well as what the fractional part of each color would be.
They then had to fill in the circle to represent each color and its relation to how many M & M's there were in all. It was a fun, tasty math lesson!
